While not weapons in the classic sense, gravity well projectors are used to artifically project a strong gravity field in an area of space where no major masses usually exist, making it impossible to use light-speed engines. The main function of any Interdictor-class ship is to use this effect to foil hit-and-run tactics and keep outmanuevered enemies from escaping. Interdictor Crusers work just as well in reverse: Grand Admiral Thrawn used them to drag his own ships out of hyperspace in pinpoint combat formation, catching opposing New Republic forces off-balance.
